About Us
Wendy Middleton, prior to setting up Middleton Stud with her husband Colin and family, has had 35 years experience with horses, 20 of which have been spent in the stud industry, the remaining years within the racing industry. Over the years Wendy has assisted with hundreds of foalings, most of which go very smoothly, resulting in a healthy mare and foal. When things have gone wrong, e.g. When the mare rejects her foal, Wendy has developed the skill of caring for the mare/foal and is now renowned all over the UK for fostering and hand-rearing orphan foals.
Middleton Stud is very much a family affair. Since the young orphans have to be fed every hour to start with we need many helping hands. Our three daughters, Becky, Kirstie and Zoe are all involved with the feeding routine and the horses in general, and are a great help to their parents.
Malcolm our head groom is a great support in keeping the stud running smoothly when we are busy with the foals; foaling mares and breaking-in yearlings, and he keeps us entertained with his sense of humour.
- We are one of the only studs in the UK who can provide specialist hand rearing of orphan foals, protecting your investments in breeding programmes.
- We are surrounded by 50 acres of land, which comprise of 10 paddocks of varying sizes. With an additional 30 acres available for summer grazing.
- We have accommodation for 36 horses, 6 of which are foaling boxes with CCTV.
- We have a fully equipped vet's room with stocks.
- We have one of the best Veterinary practices in the country at our service 24 hours a day.
- We take in mares for A.I.
